Australia Bans Online Poker
Published by admin on April 1, 2009
As you’ve probably heard a new shocking news has hit the online poker industry. The Australian government decided to ban the online gambling. Unfortunately this decision is not similar to the one from United States, it’s different. They decided to ban the access to all the gambling related websites, this includes all the major online poker rooms and also
pokernews.com, which is only promoting online poker rooms and it’s currently offering some of the largest bonuses out there. In case an isp from Australia is not going to limit the access to the online gambling websites they are going to get a cosistent fine of $11k.
We think that the reasons why the government took this decision is similar to the one from United States: the lobby made by all the offline gambling facilities was so strong that they had to apply this new gambling bill. The difference between the two countries is that there aren’t going to be any online gambling. In United States there are right now a couple of
online poker rooms that still accept players from US, despite the legislation.
The financial crisis had a negative impact on the offline gambling, this is why things got nasty and they are willing to do almost anything in order to get the most out of the hungry for gambling crowd.
