Men Nguyen

Humble beginning

Born in Vietnam, Men Nguyen started plying a bus to support his family needs. In 1968, with trouble all around, he became a devout non-communist. He finally decided to escape on a boat to America, the capitalist country which gave him refuge.

Initiation

His income was meager, but his heart was big. He visited a Las Vegas junket in 1976 and played poker for the first time. He lost beyond his means and yet took it in good stride. That was when he realized he was meant for the card game. He soon returned with fashioned knowledge and beat many professionals. Hs career had started.

Life since then

He has won as many as 6 WSOP bracelets and many other trophies. He even started his furniture business from his initial poker earnings. But it took much of its time. Only good thing was that he could connect again with his Vietnamese people and hand them help. Since then, he has been a generous charity man for his South Asian country of origin.

Composure

With smart earnings of over 8 million dollars, he has the backup for a comfortable life. He has turned into a player-cum-trainer and many of his disciples have done fairly well. He has been voted card player of the year 5 times and that is great going by any standard. He has moderated his temper with age and even tried to rectify his playing method, being hurt by cheating allegations in early 1990s. They still haunt him.

Inspiration

Now 54, he is well settled in Degas, Carolina, USA. He has come a long way n his life through his immense dedication to the game. He tries to instill these features in his students in a friendly atmosphere. He has been nicknamed ‘The Master’ because of his training skills.

Softplaying or not, Men Nguyen is a wizard of the game.
