Howard Lederer

Bred in bones

Howard Lederer has an ex-professor as a father and a poet author as a sister. This might have rubbed on his composure. He is so steady that he is called “Professor’ by colleagues. But his educative character was perhaps destined to shun Columbia University for the Poker table.

Flamboyance

He has done much for the game of poker. He co-hosts Poker games shows for Fox. He has made an informative video called ‘Secrets of No limit hold ‘em.’ His sister Katy Lederer has made it a family matter with a well-known poker book – Poker Face – A Girlhood Among gamblers. It is interesting how he has molded his earlier talents in chess into the renowned card game. He also runs Poker fantasy camps. His sister Annie plays professional poker too

Performance

He has won two WSOP titles and as many World Poker Tour titles. That makes awesome reading and has enriched him by almost 5 million dollars.

Trait

He is known to keep very calm, but like most eccentric people, he loses his cool at times. He once verbally chastised Danny Negreanu for being harsh to his poker-playing sister Annie Duke. He was once irritated beyond repair by famous heckler Tony Guoga after loss. He did not even shake hands, gaining criticism for graceless behavior. Otherwise he self-proclaims to practice Zen in his card dealings.

Determination

He was nicknamed ‘Bubba’ by fellow poker player Doyle Brunson for his obesity. He had gastric surgery to remove his fat. Being vegan by choice, he still ate a cheeseburger to win a $10000 bet. He does not like losing. Few people remember that when Jennifer Harman won her first WSOP title in 2000, she learnt the tricks from Howard.

Family

He is married to Suzie, has a son Matt and three beautiful dogs in his home in Nevada. He is 45 years old.
