Dewey Tomko
Village Boy
Dewey Tomko was born in a hamlet with little facilities. He moved for studies to a nearby town Pittsburgh and relished playing poker in pool rooms. He would very rarely loose and his earnings paid for his college stay. Poker ad engrafted in him.
Work and play
He got a job as teacher in a kindergarten school. He used to spend restless nights on poker tables and days with kids. The schedule was taxing and he soon inferred that the school money is not helping him much. He left the school and made play his work.
Eternal bridesmaid
He is almost designed by God to always come second. His runner-up position with Jack Straus (No Limits Hold’em) in 1981 and Mortensen in 2001 (heads-up) made him a poker household name. His repeated money finishes, three bracelets in WSOP and twice-second place in WPT has swelled his income to about 3 million dollars.
Business sense
He was persuaded by Doyle Brunson to start a golf course restructuring business with poker earnings. He agreed and is reaping the decision fruitfully as their comoany is renowned and doing good business. His friendly games with Doyle in Florida drew hi towards golf. He took a break from poker and started practicing f or PGA. It was his son Derek who brought again to the poker world for the benefit of his fans.
Family
He has a wife and two sons, Darren, Derek and a daughter Drew. He took ultimate care to keep them away from poker. He would not even keep cards in his home. But Derek has learned the game well and is a better player than his esteemed father was at his age.
Dream
Dewey has two dreams. One is to see his casino in Costa Rica grow in fame and money. The second is to share WSOP title wih his son Derek.
