David Pham
David took one huge risk when he sailed to America from his native country Vietnam. He was one of only 46 survivors out of 145. Here he was lucky in getting a mentor and an employer like Men Nguyen, known as The Master. Men runs a poker tutorial and admits that David is by far his best protégé by a long mile. This is when he has had a slue of good students.
Initial Struggle
David has had struggling adolescence and he labored for survival. His prowess in poker allows him a good life but he never cuts off from toiling. Card games can be very tricky and nuances have to be learnt. David, through his dedication, perhaps rekindled by his loss in 2000 WSOP, is considred one of the best.
Records
In 2001, he tried four games in one in WSOP, which make the S.H.O.E version and won it. He later doubled it in 2006. What gives him more pleasure are his seven final finishes in WPT championships. He created a record of sort by winning 14 major cups in four years in 2001-05.
Style
He is quite fast in his calls and always tries to create chaos in the opponent’s minds. He has been nicknamed ‘The Dragon’ because of this. Though he excels in all formats in poker, a trait he showed in his S.H.O.E. win, he prefers the No Limit Hold’ em the most.
Inspiration
Men Nguyen has been an inspiration to all Asians in the poker circuit. He is however suspected of instilling foul tactic and softplaying in his pupils. David has till now kept aloof of these tactics. He lives life quietly with his wife and four children. He is just 42 and still going strong. Like his mentor, he is also a charity man and helps out Vietnam kids through his earnings. He has earned near 8 million dollars in poker.
