David Colclough

Moving start

Born to a Welsh man and English woman, David ColClough had to shift many places in his early life as his father was in the navy. The extensive family would host poker parties on the weekends. David was a fast learner and that was also seen in his above average academic records. Once, he was helped by a lucky suggestion from his roommate to head to a casino instead of a bar on a weekend night. That was his moment of destiny.

Decision made

While doing his engineering, he would not hesitate to play poker whenever possible. This earned him a couple of detentions. He took various jobs at J P Morgan, Inland Post and Fujitsu and was absolutely workaholic. He used his free times participating in stray poker tournaments. David soon realized that computer work would let him earn peanuts compared to the vast probabilities in poker. He took the second course.

High and low

With less distinguished players from Europe, his place in the Europe hall of Fame was more or less sure. His regular final table finishes in WSOP and other tournaments were building up his earnings. He is even believed to have won the 2002 WSOP, and given it in a deal, but that is a conjecture. He once won huge in Omaha high/low and then committed the error of his life.

Rescue act

He invested his last pound in a nightclub that he has prepared with sweat and blood. The plan succumbed and he was a near pauper. That was in 2003. Poker came to his rescue next year and he finished in the money as many as 34 times, a feat he repeated in 2006. His consistency has been a subject of talk throughout Europe.

Family

He is married and lives in Birmingham with his daughter Sian from his ex-wife. He is a poker advisor at Bet365fair.com. He is also nick-named as ‘El Blondie’ for his blond tresses.
