Barry Shulman
Routine life
Like many, Barry Shulman lived an official life, involved in Real Estate. He took an early retirement in 1990 at the age of only 44 and shifted to Las Vegas from Seattle. He got considerable retirement money and pondered to live an adventurous life post-retirement.
Limited success
His success as a poker player cannot be hailed enough. He has reached the final table in both big events and came desperately close to winning in 2001. He has not won the WSOP bracelet, World Poker Title or other major championship. However with several in-the-money finishes, his poker earnings are more than 1.5 million. And that is only as a player.
Contribution
His contribution to the game is huge in the capacity of CEO of People Card magazine. He bought the magazine in 1996 and has turned it into bible of sorts for the poker pundits. Covering all territories of poker, the magazine dishes out twenty-six editions per year. And all have one eclectic column by the man himself. His tour-de-force was when he sponsored Poker championship on TV and made it a nationally followed game. Game of Poker will be indebted to him for this service.
Knowledge
Through his stint in poker as a player and now as CEO of the magazine, he is brilliantly versed in many aspects of poker. He cannot play professional poker now owing to his commitments but makes regular visits to poker shows in Las Vegas. He knows that the new crowd getting into poker feels reserved at the start. He makes them feel at ease through his expertise and is quite revered for this gesture.
Family
He has had two marriages and kids from both of them. He has all of them a happy and healthy life. One is a photographer and his stepdaughters are management students.
